This is indeed an electric power system engineering classic. It was written by practicing engineers at Westinghouse that were experts in their individual fields - and more importantly - excellent writers. This at a time when both Westinghouse and General Electric had an extensive number of technical experts on their staff to back up their sales and field forces. They provided free in-depth training and consultation to utility engineers, which of course helped sell their products. But it also helped insure proper application of those products.
The book entitled "Transmission and Distribution Reference Book" actually includes generation aspects as well as T&D. The book starts with several sections that describe and discuss power system characteristics such as symmetrical components, overhead lines and cable, transformers and reactors. It then moves into calculations and applications including regulation and losses, steady state performance, stability, relaying, lightning protection and distribution system.
One might ask, why buy a power system engineering book written in 1964 for this relatively high price. The answer is: (1) much of power system design and equipment from that era or prior is actually still in operation, so the information is still current; (2) although power design and equipment has changed somewhat over the last 40 years, it has fundamentally not changed all that much (certainly not as much as the telecommunication industry); and (3) it's difficult to find new technical references that are as practical and readable; rather they now tend to be overly academic and abstract.
